소식을 들어서들 아시겠지만, 2006년 5월 21일 실시된 국민투표에 의해서, Serbia-Montenegro로 불리던 옛 유고슬라비아로 부터 Montenegro 공화국이 6월 3일 자로 독립을 선언했는 갑습니다. 몬테네그로 공화국의 독립은 이제 많은 나라들로 부터 인정을 받기 시작했고, 따라서 머지않아 (아마도 금년 여름쯤에) HAM들의 관심사인 'New DXCC entity'의 탄생이 기대된다.
DXCC credit으로 인정이 되기 위해서는, UN이 분리된 몬테네그로를 새로운 회원국으로 받아들이고, ITU에서 callsign prefix 블록을 할당해 주어야 한다.
새로운 entity의 탄생과 더불어 'The International DX Festival Montenegro 2006'이라는 일종의 DXpedition이 계획되고있는 모양이다. 이 DXpediton은 세 군데의 서로 다른 장소에서 Motenegro에 새로 할당된 프리픽스의 첫 호출부호로 운용이 될 것이라는데, DXpedition 역사상 초유의 기록이 될 200.000 QSO를 목표로 하고있다고 한다.
Serbia 국회는, Serbia가 옛 Serbia-Montenegro 연합을 승계한다고 선언할 예정이어서, UN에서의 Serbia의 위치는 현재의 Serbia-Montenegro와 다름이 없게될 것이고, 따라서 Serbia는 옛 Serbia-Montenegro의 프리픽스인 'YU'를 그대로 쓰게 될 것으로 보인다.

Following a national referendum on May 21, 2006, the Republic of Montenegro declared its independence on June 3, 2006. Montenegro’s independence is now recognized by a growing number of countries. Hence there is a new DXCC entity coming up very soon, expected to be registered during the summer of 2006.
Crucial for DXCC credit is either acceptance of Montenegro by the UN into its membership or allocation of a callsign prefix block by the ITU.
One of the activities associated with The International DX Festival Montenegro 2006 will be a record breaking DXpedition targeting for 200.000 QSOs. The expedition will be held from three different locations using only one and very first callsign following a new ITU allocation to Montenegro.
"Once Montenegro is accepted into the UN or obtains a call sign prefix block, DXers will have a new DXCC entity," says ARRL Membership Services Manager Wayne Mills, N7NG.
The division of Serbia and Montenegro eliminates what remained of Yugoslavia. Serbia's parliament this week declared Serbia a sovereign nation as heir to the former Serbia-Montenegro union. Assuming that Serbia continues to hold its current seat in the UN, it will remain on the DXCC list as a pre-existing and continuing DXCC entity, Mills explained.
